Join LOV this winter to Ban Cat and Dog Fur in Canada! There are many ways we can unite to stop this cruel practice. Attend our next demonstration Dec.19th, call or write to your local MP, download the petition and collect signatures to help reach our goal of 100,000 signatures, and spread the word by adding our anti-fur posters to your Facebook or Myspace profile. Please click below for instructions to make sure your petition signatures count!
BAN CAT AND DOG FUR IN CANADA Every year over 2 million dogs and cats are killed for their fur in China. There are no labeling laws for fur in Canada! Cat and dog fur is easily dyed to resemble other species. It is mostly used as trim for coats, gloves, boots and even trinkets and cat toys!
Usually raised on breeding farms but also kept tethered outside of family dwellings, these animals endure cramping, severe weather conditions and are often deprived of food and water. Family pets are also stolen.
If you wear fur it could very well be a cat or dog! Say NO to fur and stop supporting this horrific trade!
Please join us to educate the public and collect signatures to urge our government to ban the import of cat and dog fur once and for all! Visit the Skins page for more facts about Cat & Dog fur & use one of our posters for you Facebook or Myspace profile. DEMO DETAILS:
WHEN: Saturday, December 5th TIME: 1:00PM - 3:00PM WHERE: Northeast corner of Queen St. and Spadina
Please invite everyone you know who cares about dogs and cats! Click on the Dec 5th demo link above under Action Alerts to view the Facebook event.
Leaflets, posters and petitions will be provided. LOV believes peaceful protesting is most effective. At our demos we get the word out with volunteers handing out written infromation to the public and answering any questions. PETITION INSTRUCTIONS: To download your own copy of Canadians Against Trade in Dog and Cat Fur's petition, click on the PDF link under our Action Alerts. If you are having trouble using this type of file, download the following image files: Make sure all signatures are complete with address to make them count. Ensure friends, family, co-workers or strangers know that their personal information will not be shared, and their address is neccessary to make sure they are a real person and have not signed multiple times.

"IT'S SWEET TO BE VEGAN!" MUFFIN DEMO
Directors from LOV know that the best way to a person's heart is through their stomach - that's why they'll be handing out homemade vegan muffins to passersby in Downtown Toronto on Sunday, July 12th.
Veganism isn't just twigs n' tofu! It's delicious - exotic - easy - flavourful - inexpensive - adventurous - and when it comes to dessert, can be absolutely decadent! And it's not just your tastebuds that benefit. Going vegan is better for your body, the environment, and the MILLIONS of animals who are slaughtered every year in Canada for food.
Healthful, compassionate cooking that's easy on the planet and your wallet - what could be better than that? ;)

FUR FREE FRIDAY DEMONSTRATION AND NIGHT OUT!
Please join us as we mark Fur Free Friday by holding a gory funeral procession past multiple fur stores and ending with a protest of The Bay. The megaphone will be in full effect!
Please try to dress all in black to keep with the theme.
Candles, animal ears, 'blood', posters and leaflets will be provided but feel free to bring your own!
WHEN and WHERE:
We will meet at the SE corner of Yonge/Dundas at 6:45 pm, so that we can leave at 7:15 pm heading west on Dundas to Spadina, South on Spadina to Queen and finally East on Queen to Yonge where we will protest The Bay from the SE corner until approx. 9 pm.
WHY:
Every year in Canada, fur bearing animals are killed by the millions in the most cruel and sickening ways - from anal and vaginal electrocution, to neck breaking and skinning alive. Cat and dog fur is legally imported into Canada from China and there are no laws to prevent these furs from being mislabeled as Asian wolf or rabbit.
The Fur Council of Canada is using the trendy term "Green" to try to persuade the public that fur is environmentally friendly. They would like us to believe that fur is biodegradable and that faux fur causes much more pollution. Nothing could be further from the truth. The toxins, such as chrome, formaldehyde and coal tar derivatives used in the tanning processes contribute great amounts of air and ground water pollution. These processes are done to prevent the fur from decomposing. Trapped fur uses 3 1/2 times the energy content than the production of faux fur and ranched fur uses 15 times that much energy!
Don't be fooled by flashy advertising or trendy fads! Fur is CRUEL for everyone involved especially the animals! They deserve to keep their fur!

WORLD PUPPY MILL AWARENESS DAY! Please join Liberty Over Violence for Puppy Mill Awareness Day as we hold a candle-light vigil for all of the dogs who have been needlessly abused, tortured and killed in the name of greed. DATE: Saturday, September 20th TIME: 7:30PM - 8:30PM LOCATION: South East corner of Bloor and Spadina, Toronto
A puppy mill is defined as “a breeding operation in which dogs are repeatedly bred for financial gain and are kept in substandard conditions.” There are currently around 400 mills in Ontario and over 2300 in Quebec. It is estimated that 94% of puppies sold in stores come from puppy mills.
Throughout their short lives, females are constantly impregnated until they are no longer able to reproduce. They are discarded at local shelters, euthanized, killed in horrific manners by mill owners or sold to laboratories for testing.
Living in deplorable conditions, disease runs rampant. It is common for the dogs to have chronic medical issues including dental disease, eye/ear/respiratory problems, and injuries.
Animals raised in mills receive little to no veterinary care, and are rarely tested for congenital defects, which result in conditions that are seen after the animal has been bought and even years into their lives. Denied of necessary human and non-human contact, behavioural problems and unpredictable social traits later in life are a major issue.
Hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats are euthanized every year in Canada because there are not enough homes for them! Please do not contribute to this! DON'T SHOP, ADOPT!
Contact your MP and demand that laws be changed to stop stores from selling animals! http://www.parl.gc.ca/

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PROTEST AGAINST THE COMMERCIAL SEAL HUNT! With March 15 fast approaching, activists throughout the world will be rallying for the International Day of Protest Against the Canadian Commercial Seal Hunt.
Canadian animal rights organizations ARK II and Liberty Over Violence will team up to stage a mass slaughter of baby seals to protest the Canadian commercial seal hunt. 'East Coast sealers' will 'slaughter' imitation seals with various weaponry that is used to kill seals during the hunt. Crowds of activists will then march down Yonge Street to Dundas Square to further protest the hunt. DATE: SATURDAY, MARCH 15, 2008 TIME: 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM LOCATION: YONGE and BLOOR (North East corner) GROUPS: ARK II: THE ANIMAL RIGHTS KOLLECTIVE, LOV: LIBERTY OVER VIOLENCE
Since 2002, more than 1,600,000 harp seals have been clubbed and shot to death for their fur in Canada's commercial seal hunt. The large-scale Canadian seal hunt begins in March on the East Coast after mother seals have given birth to their pups.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans' own facts state that the majority of harp and hooded seals killed are between 12 days and 12 weeks old. The seals are slaughtered primarily for their fur as there is very little market for seal meat and seal oil.
Although the majority of Canadians oppose this cruel and unnecessaryhunt, it is promoted, protected and subsidized every year with their tax dollars.

FOIE GRAS DEMO
Liberty Over Violence and Montreal's Global Action Network are teaming up to educate the public about the horrors of the foie gras industry!
Foie Gras, marketed as a "gourmet" food, is a product of extreme cruelty to animals. On modern factory foie gras farms, ducks and geese are intensively raised in large, enclosed barns. For the last few weeks of their lives, the birds are forced into tiny wire cages, barely larger than their bodies. Everyday, farm workers grab the immobilized birds and cram metal pipes down their throats, forcing huge amounts of food into them in seconds.
The birds suffer tremendously during and after the force-feeding process. Their livers quickly swell up to ten times their normal size, and soon the birds can barely stand. They often die when the metal feeding tubes puncture their necks, when their stomachs literally "burst", and when force-feeding overfills them to the point of suffocation.
Quebec is the main producer of foie gras in Canada. About 500,000 ducks are killed each year in Quebec's foie gras industry. France produces 90% of the world's foie gras, with roughly 24 million ducks and half a million geese being killed annually.
In the past decade, 14 nations have banned foie gras production. In 2006, Chicago was the first city to ban the sale of foie gras.
The holidays are typically a time when foie gras sales are up. Please join us this Sunday as we hold our very first foie gras demonstration in front of the gourmet grocery store -- and major foie gras seller -- Pusateri's!

FASHION CRIMES DEMO
Join us this Saturday as we pay a visit to local designer Pam Chorley, who has bloodied her hands yet again this season by continuing to use MASSIVE amounts of fur in her designs. Fur coats, fur trim, fur stoles, fur capelets, fur gloves and even fur EARRINGS are sold and designed by Pam in her Queen Street West store.
Pam 'proudly' displays postcards from the Fur Council of Canada--a Canadian pro-fur organization--which state why Canadian-sourced fur is 'ethical', 'environmentally friendly' and 'humane'. Her employees also direct people to the Fur Council's "Fur is Green" website which is nothing but a collection of blantant falsehoods that state wearing fur is green and eco-friendly. Please send her a polite email informing that her that she is misinformed and that using faux fur and other cruelty-free alternatives in her clothing line is the mark of a true fashion-forward designer.

November Events Join LOV on Fur-Free Friday at a solemn nighttime demonstration in memory of the 40 million animals who lose their lives every year to the fur industry.
WHEN: Friday November 23, 2007 WHERE: Yonge & Dundas, southwest corner TIME: 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM MEET: 7:15 PM
Posters, leaflets, and candles provided. We will be kicking off our annual Winter anti-fur campaign with this vigil so be ready for bi-weekly fur demos all the way until Spring!
There is nothing fashionable about wearing fur. Animals are anally and vaginally electrocuted, have their necks broken, are beaten, and many are skinned alive. In China, where a black market cat and dog fur industry exists, video evidence has shown dogs being skinned alive and staying conscious and breathing in the 'dead' pile for up to 10 minutes after being skinned. Much of this cat and dog fur ends up in North America as cheap fur trim.
There is simply no excuse for wearing or buying fur. It is morally, ethically and environmentally irresponsibile. Raise your voice for the voiceless and do something to help put an end to this senseless slaughter.
Have a heart. Please don't buy or wear fur.
